Time is Fleeting

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…At least around our house. The lights are up outside and on the bannister. Nine large baubles are hanging from the ceiling in the entry. My hubby has put out his Christmas village. He gets a new Department 56 building every year from either the Dickens’ or New England Village series. They’re beautiful. Plus, I’ve begun to burn scented candles. That’s like music for me: I forget about it most of the time, but love it when I remember. Maybe I should make myself a note. Speaking of music…I have a Christmas CD playing.

The New Year is fast approaching. Today’s check-in is going to be a little different. These are my writing/editing goals for 2012. I’d love to hear about yours too.

After seeing the pic on Facebook of the toy car “asking” a Smart Car, “Are you my mother?” I made my goal as a picture book author to be remembered by readers decades after they’d read my book. (I just love P.D. Eastman’s AYMM. “You are not my mother. You are a Snort.” *grin*) So, next year my goal is to find a publisher or agent for my picture books. Therefore, my goal this year is to submit two or more ideas to publishers and query at least one agent who represents children’s authors.

And speaking of publishers, Deb and I hope to sign with a publisher before the end of this year or early next. Therefore, I must do what I can to finish writing and editing no later than mid-December.

Carolyn has a publisher lined up. I will be working with her to tweak the formatted draft and get it ready to send to him…again, hopefully by mid-December.

I intend to have a clear outline for my children’s chapbook completed by the end of the week and then get busy writing. Therefore, I will be able to pursue a publisher early in the New Year.

I was asked if I could run Skype writing classes. I’d never thought of that, so I’m mulling it over. I think it would be a blast.

I will also seek to keep up with any work I get through Christian Editing Services.

Other goals…

I hope to be a certified labour doula taking clients by the end of February. I have some catching up to do with my reading today, but that shouldn’t be too tough.

I will maintain my Personal Trainer Specialist certification, but will likely not have time to really drum up business. I’ll simply schedule clients as they come.

I will be more likely to fulfill my goals if I tend to my own exercise and healthy eating goals. I had a good breakfast this morning…and even resisted the temptation to have a Chai Tea Latte. (Silly Tassimo calling my name.)

Have a wonderful day.

I look forward to hearing from you and visiting some of your sites.

  1. well you are ahead of the game Christmas in November and goals for 2012 – I’m still struggling to work out where July got to:)

I say go for it – to be rememered from a childhood book has to be the best – so best of luck with your goals – fingers crossed for you

keep smiling and all the best for this coming week

  2. Stephanie, good job on deciding what you want as your focus. I’m with Alberta–I’m doing well if I can plan tomorrow, much less next year yet. :)

It sounds like you have several things simmering on the stove, and you’re not letting any of them burn–again, good job!

    • Thanks so much for the encouragement.
To be perfectly truthful…My hubby loves Christmas and does 95 percent of the decorating. I just let him do it earlier and earlier every year. In fact, sometimes I’m even the one to suggest it. *grin*
Now. to empty and move two bookshelves; it’s the only place for the tree. *sigh*
I best be off to stir those things on the stove.
      Have a great week.

  3. No Christmas decorating before Thanksgiving :)

Sounds like you have great goals for the coming year. Best of luck with them!
