Farewell to Round 3

It’s time to say goodbye to Round 3 and look ahead to Round 4 of A Round of Words in 80 Days. Below are the goals I set for myself at the beginning of the round. Let’s see how things progressed.

Writing Goals

I signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo in April and didn’t achieve my goal, but it did get me back into writing my novel and that’s a good thing.

I signed up again this month and am motoring along with the word count. However, I haven’t worked on my novel as much as I would like. My goal is to write 10,000 words in Becca’s Journey this month as well as an additional 10,000 words for other projects (blogs and picture books primarily). I’m getting some great input on how to make my characters more relatable and have decided I need to add far more conflict.

My weekly blogging goals are to write three posts for SNEI beyond my weekly ROW80 check-ins, one for Monday Motivation on the topic of writing, and one for Kimberley Payne’s site on the topic of fitness. I wrote faithfully for Monday Motivation and for Kimberley’s site, but I didn’t post as often as I would have liked here.

I also plan to write one or two times per month for my website as well as writing monthly for He Cares for You. I tweaked my website landing page, but I didn’t write the posts I’d hoped to write. I did write for He Cares for You, however, and that was good.

I have been asked to be a copywriter for a local website designer. This work includes writing four 700-word articles for seniors each month. These projects will obviously take top priority, being paying work and all. I haven’t gotten further work beyond the articles, but that’s consistent.

Editing Goals

– whatever work comes my way I’m playing the waiting game right now, but I did get my assignments done by the deadline. Yay!

Reading Goals

– one novel and one non-fiction book per month I haven’t read as much as I’d like to, but I have done more than in the past little while.

Submitting Goals

– submit something (a picture book or short piece) to a paying market each week I’ve entered a flash fiction contest, will be entering a kindergarten story writing contest today, and in the near future, I may write a piece to enter in the WD Popular Fiction contest, and will be writing at least a couple of pieces that I will submit for possible publication in anthologies that are being put together. However, submitting picture book manuscripts on a regular basis has not happened.

Skills Development Goals

– complete the online writing for children course I’m taking Done! Yay! (I learned a lot along the way.)

Platform Building Goals

It’s time; let’s do this! I watched a video by Firepole Marketing. I’m considering incorporating the ideas presented.

ROW80-Related Goals

– weekly posts Done!

– visit “my peeps” on Mondays and Thursdays Visited twice a week, though not always on the days scheduled.

Fitness Goals

– complete the challenge I signed on for this month I completed the challenge and signed up again for the September challenge (which is going okay, but I’m having trouble getting the needed traction).

– use the challenge as a jump-start to exercising more and eating better It’s still not a habit. Sigh!

All in all, it was a successful round, though I didn’t achieve all I’d hoped. There’s always Round 4. Will you be joining me in October?

  1. Such well detailed goals. You’ve achieved a lot. I think having those goals really helps motivate me – i am so glad I found ROW80. All the best in the next round.

  2. Sounds like a pretty good Round, Steph! Excellent to hear! As for my goals, not bad. I made some good habits, made progress on other things, and learn how to be better. Going to have a busy Round 4 with writing/editing and theatre projects.

    Let’s start off with a bang! ~woot~

Have a great end of Round 3 and beyond! 🙂
