Yes, I would like to lose some weight.
Yes, I would like to drop one or two sizes.
But, no, that is not the main motivator for beginning my 30 Day Challenge.
I want to find my body’s happy place.
If you have a lot of weight to lose, following this plan will simply be a jump start. But let’s face it, a step in the right direction is still just that . . . a step in the right direction.
So, here is what I’m doing. If you would like to join me, please get the help you need from professionals in the fields of nutrition and exercise.
Eat well six days out of seven.
For me, that means limiting myself to one drink with more than 25 calories per day and drinking more water. It means my only sweet snack beyond fruit will be a 100 calorie treat. It also means increasing my fruit and vegetable intake. I love them. I’m just lazy when it comes to preparing them. Eating well also means reducing my prepared food intake. Kudos to those of you who make everything from scratch.
Do 30+ minutes of cardio at least three times per week.
With the nice weather, it’s easy to enjoy this time by going for a walk with my hubby in the evening. We just have to go a little farther and bypass the coffee shops. It will be tougher when the unpleasant weather hits. Thankfully, there is an arena nearby with a walking track. When my daughter’s BFF returns to school, perhaps I can interest her in joining me.
Do a full-body resistance workout three times per week.
No gym membership. No endless hours of pumping iron. For now, I simply intend to do a series of exercises using light weights that work every major muscle group. Even if you’re not familiar with how to put together a program, there are countless exercise DVDs available as well as sites like sparkpeople.com that are very helpful. (Remember to get professional advice before changing your exercise routine.)
And there you have it. Simple and doable.
Will temptations present themselves? Oh, you mean like the bag of four chocolate bars I found today that I’d forgotten about? Yes, they will be there. Not to worry.
Decide on your own 30 Day Challenge. Maybe it will be doing only one of the above steps and adding the other two in the months to come. That’s okay.
Remember to take that step in the right direction.
I’d love to hear about your journey. Who knows? Maybe you’ll give me ideas to add to my own.
Here’s to fitness!
